The NBA doesn’t know how to give the fans what they want. Just play basketball. Don’t get political. Don’t boycott. It’s really that easy.
But, some players really don’t get it. Even when they were finally able to resume their season after the whole coronavirus fiasco, the numbers of fans tuning in from game one to game two dropped considerably. Why? Too many players got political with their flags and signs and clothing.
LeBron James has decided that he wants to be the trendsetter for getting the fans all riled up. SportsCenter captured a photo of him wearing a shirt that says, “Vote or Die!”
One guess of who he wants you to vote for…
James has been working on pushing his liberal political organization “More Than a Vote” since June. And fans are over it.
The organization is designed as a voter registration drive for black voters. The claim is that there is voter suppression, and he wants to do what he can to get as many blacks to the polls as possible in November.
It’s a noble cause. If blacks aren’t getting to the polls, they should be encouraged to do so. After all, every American should get the one vote that he or she is entitled to.
Well, it sounds noble until you hear James start talking. “Just shows that racism will always be a part of the world, part of America. Hate in America, especially for African Americans, is living every day.” He claims that being black in America is tough, no matter how much money you have or how much people admire you.
Yeah, he’s having a rough time in America. It would be easy to say that James could easily just provide more motivational speeches. He could encourage anyone, black or otherwise, that if they find themselves on the wrong side of the law that they should listen to the cops instead of trying to resist arrest. Then again, James is also working to try to get convicted criminals the right to vote. Apparently, breaking laws is fine with James.
While some of the ideas that James has are fantastic, like converting sports stadiums to polling places so that it’s easier for people to come out and vote, he wants everything to have a racial edge to it.
He claims that America is perpetually racist. However, isn’t it perpetually racist because he continues to bring race up at any given moment? Too many people cry out about racism when, in fact, there isn’t a racist moment happening. They simply don’t like how they’re being treated (mostly because they’re not following the rules of the establishment or the law of the city) and so they call out that a person is racist.
LeBron James is one of the highest-paid NBA stars still on the courts. He wears what he wants without thinking about what it may be doing to some of the new stars. He’s certainly proving to be a Democrat – he’s not listening to what’s going on around him. The whole reason the NBA stopped the boycott after one day was to ensure that they got back onto the courts. Otherwise, the boycott was going to hurt some of the newer players financially.
The statement t-shirt that James has been practicing in certainly tells where his political views lie. He’ll be as violent as he needs to be in order to get the message across. Perhaps that’s not what fans really want to see right now.
The fans can’t be any clearer. They’re not tuning into the games because they don’t want to hear any more political crap. They get enough of that across social media and everywhere else they turn. When they tune into a basketball game, they just want to watch the sport. And LeBron James can’t seem to honor those requests, no matter how much viewership drops.
